About the Stingrays

Since 1992, Samford Stingrays has given children from Samford and surrounding districts the chance to swim for fun and fitness.

Who we are

Samford Stingrays is dedicated to its members, families and the local community. We are all about having fun while encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle for our children.

Our objectives this season

  • To promote swimming. We want as many children as possible to join, swim all the strokes and improve their personal bests at club nights and meets.
  • To be family-friendly. A safe, fun and friendly club night at our exceptional home base, the Samford Pool.
  • To encourage team and community spirit. We want members to be proud to be part of the Stingrays family.

The club is a non-profit organisation, and all funds raised are reinvested for the benefit of members. We are affiliated with Brisbane Swimming, Swimming Queensland and Swimming Australia.

We love volunteers

We always need help with timekeeping, marshalling, the BBQ, and setting up and packing down on Friday nights. As part of membership, every family helps with BBQ duty at least once, and our Volunteer Coordinator sends the roster out well in advance.

Samford Stars

Our most decorated swimmers

The club has produced many great swimmers. We regularly have swimmers at Brisbane and Queensland State Championships, and a handful have gone on to represent Australia at the Commonwealth and Olympic Games.

Bronte Barratt OAM

A retired member of the Australian Swimming Team, Bronte was a gold, silver and bronze medallist across three Olympic Games (Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016), a multiple medallist at three Commonwealth Games (Melbourne 2006, Delhi 2010 and Glasgow 2014), and represented Australia at five World Championships. She grew up in Samford, swam with the club until she was 12, and still holds 31 club records. Bronte has visited the club several times to meet the kids, sign autographs and inspire the next generation.

Kyle Richardson

Kyle swam for Australia at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, winning two relay gold medals. He still holds 15 Samford Swim Club records.

Coaching and training

Our members train at pools all over Brisbane's north side, and swimmers do not have to train in Samford to join. Families drive from far and wide for what has become a Friday night institution in the Samford Valley.
